Barry Barnswell

Barry Eugene Barnswell was born on January 5, 1970, to the late Doris Bradfield Barnswell and Milton Barnswell, in Austell, Georgia. He went to sleep in the Lord on February 14, 2025, in LaFayette, Indiana.

Barry gave his life to Christ and was baptized in August 1981 at Old Friendship Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, where he sang in the choir and served on the usher board. Barry later became a member and served at the Church of Christ on the West Side of Chicago.

Barry grew up in West Atlanta. He attended Atlanta Public Schools from grade school through high school and graduated from West Fulton High School (WFHS) in 1988. At WFHS, he was in JROTC, played football, and was affectionately one of the class comedians. Barry’s classmates will remember him as authentic, loyal, and “real.”

After graduation, Barry relocated to Chicago to work for Pro Black Top, following in his dad’s footsteps. He later moved to Indiana, where he drove for Indiana Packer Company for eight years and then worked for Wabash National until his passing. Barry was a talkative, dedicated, and hard worker.

One of Barry’s proudest moments was becoming a father! He could not wait to let everyone know he was a daddy. “Lil Barry” became Barry’s “mini-me” and forever twin.

Barry enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching wrestling, imitating “Fred Sanford”, and spending time with family and friends. He was “cool”, comical, playful, and mischievous, but you had better not mess with his family. Barry was a proud protective dad, son, brother, and cousin. He was friendly and did not meet a stranger. Barry loved you and aggravated you in the same breath. You did not have to wonder what He was thinking or if he was thinking at all because his tongue was slick, blunt, and direct. Barry was truly one of a kind and will be remembered forever!

Barry was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Beatrice Bradfield; paternal grandparents, Queenie B. Bryant and Earl Barnswell; brother, Timothy Bradfield; and 4 aunts and 6 uncles.

Barry leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Barry D. Cash (Riverdale, GA); his father, Milton (Sabina) Barnswell (Cicero, IL); siblings, Charmane Evans ( Mableton, GA), Darryll (Kimberly) Wilson (Temple, GA), Richard (Patricia) Lancaster (Dallas, TX), and (Chris) Valecia Appleby (Douglasville, GA); seven nieces and five nephews; 19 great nieces and nephews; three aunts, Jone Hatchie, Sandra(Edward) Gaines and Sharon Bryant; two uncles, Steve Barnswell and Sidney Bryant; a Great Aunt, Peggy Few; a Great Uncle Robert (Nell) Hembree, and a host of cousins and friends.
