Charlene Faith Massingale

Born January 22nd, 1963 in Talladega, AL, she was the beloved daughter of Eugene Rivers, Jr. & Ruth Canady Rivers. Charlene spent her childhood in Talladega where she attended Talladega High School and Talladega College. She then married Charles Massingale, Jr, in Clarksville, TN, in 1981. Together, Charles and Charlene had three beautiful children, DeAndre, LaCharles and Nykelia. 

The family relocated  to Tacoma, WA in 1989 where Charlene raised her children and worked as a Systems Analyst
for Boeing for over 10 years. In her spare time she found joy in reading Terri McMillan books, listening to music, shopping, watching movies and cheering on her children as they flourished academically and in athletics. 

Charlene was an avid wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her children and most importantly her grandchildren.

She is survived in death by her first love Charles Massingale, Jr; their children DeAndre (Brittany) Rivers, LaCharles (Leilani) Massingale and Nykelia(Jamaris) Boozer; as well as her wonderful grandchildren Londyn Boozer, Cydney and Kingston Massingale and Mason and Ryder Rivers. Although she is no longer physically with us, she has left behind the three greatest pieces of her, her children. 


She is preceded in death by her father,  Eugene Rivers, Jr and nephew, George F. Rivers, Jr. She is also survived by her mother Ruth Rivers; sisters Eugenia Rivers, Cynthia (Tony) Sillmon, Laura (Rafael) McCoy, Marsha (Antonio) Hammonds, and Cheryl Swain; brothers Melvin (Antonette) Rivers, Willie Rivers, George (Erica) Rivers, Sr, Chris Rivers, and Timothy Dates; a special sister Glenda Charles as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. 

Charlene will be missed by many but her smile, kindred spirit and legacy will continue to live through her children and grandchildren.
