Jesse James Lanier was born to Bennie Lanier and Margaret (Dillard) Lanier in Covington, Georgia, in Newton County on July 3, 1946. He departed this earthly life on May 24, 2024. He was the second child of eight siblings. He also had one other brother. Jesse loved his family, and his favorite past time was fishing. He attended the public schools in Covington, Georgia.
In 2003, he married Christine Menuel. This union lasted until he was called home. They both shared Six children during this union: Mrs. LaBretta Lanier-Gholston, Mrs. Laguetta Pitts (Lee), Ms. Stacie Lanier, Mrs. Erica Hanna (Christopher), Ms. Monica Menuel, and Mr. Christopher Menuel as well as eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Also left to cherish his memory is six sisters, Ms. Dorothy Bailey of Covington, GA, Ms. Lena Lanier of Stone Mountain, GA, Juanita Benton of Lithonia, GA, Mrs. Louise Roseberry (Paul) of Decatur, GA, Ms. Bernice Benton of Decatur, GA, and Mrs. Mary Benton-Fant (Marcus) of Lawrenceville, GA; two brothers, Mr. Nathan Howard of Chicago, IL and Mr. Frankie Benton of Conyers, GA along with a host of many nieces and nephews and close friends. Jesse also had two very special friends, Mr. Charlie Berts and Mr. Ernest Harper, both of Decatur, GA.
He was preceded in death by his father Mr. Bennie Lanier, his mother Ms. Margaret
