Thomas Morphis Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Kevin Morphis, 72, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on May 8th, 2026. A celebration of life will take place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on June 15, 2026, at 2 PM, followed by a reception.

Tom was born in Glens Falls, New York, where he had a warm upbringing with his supportive parents, older brother, three younger sisters, and lifelong friends. He had summer employment at the Glens Falls Fire Department and also volunteered at the Saratoga Race Track, where he loved watching the horses. He played basketball at St. Mary’s Academy in high school and continued on to earn a basketball scholarship at Merrimack College and the State University of New York at Albany, where he pursued an accelerated Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration program.

He went on to have a successful career in sales and eventually started and managed his own technology research and consulting company for 20 years, Sales Pulse Research.

Tom was married to his loving wife, Jane, for 42 years. It was December 1981 when they met at Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall in Boston. Charmed by his clever pick-up line, “How’s the pizza?” they started dating and building a life together.

They lived in the quaint New England town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, where they made many wonderful friends and had their oldest son, Chris. In 1989, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where their son, Eric, and daughter, Susana, were born, and where they remained for the next 37 years.

Tom was a steadfast husband and a devoted father. He was a pillar of strength for his family, always calm, optimistic, and gentle. Despite not drinking coffee himself, he woke up and brought Jane coffee every morning, one of the many selfless acts that blended into daily life.

He was quietly dependable – humble about the ways he made life easier for others, whether it was mundane tasks like keeping the gas tank full or more magnanimous gestures like helping to support a refugee family for many years.

He was an exceptional cuddler to all of his pet friends - a doting dog dad to the family King Charles Spaniel, Riley, whom he has now reunited with. He was a favorite lap to his cats, Coco and Stella, particularly Stella, who adored him.

Tom loved spending time with others, always curious about their lives. He had friends from all eras of his upbringing and adulthood and nurtured those friendships consistently. He loved going to the gym each morning to catch up with his gym friends, eager to connect with others despite his quiet demeanor.

He enjoyed playing golf with friends and going to the driving range, reading biographies, and making bread and pizza dough. He was an amateur gardener, planting wildflowers in his backyard, still blooming for his family to enjoy. His home away from home was the North Carolina mountains, where he loved to spend time with family and friends, often towing them on a tube or water skis, and later at night making his famous margaritas.

He will be remembered for his love of cashews, the Beatles, and his penchant for photography during travels with Jane, family, and friends. He was known for his dad jokes, but also his dry, unassuming wit, always shockingly sharp for those fortunate enough to hear.

Most importantly, for the past four years, Tom was a proud “Bear” to his granddaughter, Dainy. He loved to tell stories about her latest interests and accomplishments, and he was eager to spend as much time with her as possible. He led his life with intention and set an example for Dainy and his children on how to enjoy life and help others.

In the last decade of his life, Tom was a devoted volunteer at Holy Comforter, helping to coordinate feeding those in need on Wednesday evenings.

In mid-January, Tom suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. He spent a month at Piedmont Hospital and three months in rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center. Sadly, he passed away due to ongoing medical complications four months after his initial stroke. Consistent with his altruistic nature, Tom also chose to be an organ donor and was able to save the lives of three people in his death.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Morphis. He is survived by his wife, Jane Morphis; his children, Chris Morphis (Mollie), Eric Morphis, and Susana Ritchey (Jackson); granddaughter, Dainy Morphis; his siblings, Jack Morphis (Sharon), Marianne Mahoney (Kevin), Karen Morphis, and Lisa Morphis (Rob Ash); and his many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to share their gratitude for the compassionate care he received at Piedmont Hospital and the fantastic rehabilitation efforts at the Shepherd Center. For those inclined, memorial contributions can be made to your favorite charitable organization that honors Tom’s giving spirit.

“We would like to celebrate an amazing life, so we kindly request you save mournful clothing at home and wear something that brings you joy instead. Happy colors are welcome.”
