OBITUARY 

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Trudie Williams, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, family member, friend, and cherished member of the community. Trudie was a woman of faith, warmth, laughter, and love whose presence brought joy and comfort to those around her. Her memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.

Trudie Williams was born on September 28, 1955, in Atlanta, GA to Willie Fred Brown and Catherine (Bryant) Clark. She grew up in Atlanta and attended Grady High School. From an early age, she was known for her warm smile, wit and infectious laughter, love of family and affection and genuine hugs (and fierce high fives).

She worked in housekeeping at Horace A. Ward Funeral Home and various other companies, and as a childcare provider. She was well known in the community for her long walks, soulful waving and speaking to everyone she met (she never met a stranger). Trudie would cheerfully give her last dime to anyone in need. She was most notably known for her love for her mom, brother, children and amazing grandchildren

Trudie was a faithful member of Rebirth Church on Candler Road and often walked to services on Sundays and to bible Study. She was a lover of the word of God and often quoted scripture from Mark 4:39 (And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm).  She also loved participating in family bible study with her cousins and was deeply committed to learning the word of God. Her faith was a guiding force and the cornerstone of her life.

Her grandchildren would describe her as iconic and authentic (Alyceia), funny (Jessica), loving (Johniya), caring and always there for him and his kids (John John),unique (JT). She had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved. She loved music and could be found on the dance floor anytime her favorite song was played.  Her favorite song was Adore, by Prince! When you were around Trudie, you were guaranteed to laugh. She was famous for throwing her hands up praising the Lord and saying “Jesus, Peace be Still.”

Trudie leaves to cherish her memory,  her mother, Catherine Clark, brother Ray Rex Brown (Valenica Brown), daughter Tiffany Williams Smith (John Smith Jr.), daughter Candice Williams, grandchildren: John Smith III, Jonathan Smith, Jessica Williams, Johniya Smith, Alyceia Crespo, great grandchildren: Samiyah Smith, London Smith, Taylor Smith, Jaden Smith, Derekius Smith, Montana Smith, Ja’Kayla Smith, John Smith IV, Kyrie Smith, Jacaious Smith. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Ousley Court Community. 

Trudie Williams will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the joy she brought into every room, and the faith that carried her through life. Her warm smile, infectious laughter, genuine hugs, and spirited high fives made others feel seen, welcomed, and loved. She never met a stranger, and whether through a wave on one of her long walks, a word of encouragement, a scripture spoken from the heart, or a helping hand offered without hesitation, Trudie left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Her love for God, her family, her church community, and her beloved Ousley Court Community was evident in the way she lived each day. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to live on in the laughter she inspired, the memories she created, the lessons she shared, and the many lives she touched. As Trudie so often proclaimed, “Jesus, Peace be Still.” May that same peace now surround her family and all who cherish her memory.
